How to Replace the Control Pad on a Maytag Microwave Oven

All Maytag microwave ovens have a control panel that allows you to control all of the microwave functions. If the control panel malfunctions, it may need to be replaced. The control panel is secured to the microwave by only one screw along with several plastic clips, making it easily accessible for service. Rather than calling a service technician, you can order a new control panel online, then install the control panel yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the power to the microwave by unplugging it from the wall.

    • 2

Locate the two screws on the microwave grill, positioned above the microwave door on over-the-range microwaves. If your Maytag microwave is a counter-top microwave, locate the four screws on the top of the microwave, possibly covered by rubber plugs which must be pried off using a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 3

Remove the screws from the microwave grill or the top of the microwave.

    • 4

Pull the grill toward you and set it aside. If repairing a counter-top microwave, lift the panel covering the top and sides of the microwave straight up and off.

    • 5

Locate the screw securing the control panel to the microwave. On over-the-range models it is located above the front of the control panel, and it is located on the rear of the control panel on counter-top models. Remove the screw and set aside.

    • 6

Lift up on the control panel to loosen it from the plastic clips, then pull outward to remove the control panel. Be careful not to pull off the cables connected to the rear of the control panel.

    • 7

Mark the correct location of the wires connected to the rear of the control panel, then remove by squeezing the tab on the connector at the end of the wires and pulling the connector away from the rear of the control panel.

    • 8

Plug the wires that were removed from the old control panel into the new control panel.

    • 9

Insert the new control panel into the microwave, then press down to lock it into place. Secure the control panel using the screw that was removed from the old control panel.

    • 10

Replace the microwave cover or grill and secure it using the screws that were originally removed.

    • 11

Restore power to the microwave to complete the installation.
