Installation Instructions for a Sharp Over-Stove Microwave

The Sharp Corp. is known for producing electronic equipment like televisions and DVD players, but it also makes appliances for home use. Sharp manufactures a microwave oven that can be installed in a space above your stove, making it easily accessible while also saving counter space. In order to properly install the microwave and ensure that it doesn't fall, you may need to create a hole in your wall, which you will then have to patch with a drywall patching compound.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Use the stud finder in the area where you want to install the microwave to determine where the studs are in your wall. The over-stove microwave is heavy and must be secured to wall studs in order to prevent damage to your wall and ensure the microwave will not fall after installation.

Turn the microwave on its side and use the drill to remove the two screws that are holding the mounting plate to the back of the device. Remove this plate and set it aside.

    • 3

Use the wood screws provided with the microwave and the drill to attach the wall plate to the studs that you located in Step 1. Gain access to the inside of the wall by using the hammer to create a hole just big enough to insert your hand. On the inside of the wall, attach the toggle nuts and bolts (which are provided with the microwave) to the part of the screw that comes through the stud. This will prevent the microwave from slipping. Use the drywall patching compound according to the manufacturer's instructions to cover the hole. Let the patched wall dry before continuing.

Pick up the microwave (you will most likely need two people to do this) and place the back bottom edge of the microwave on the edge of the mounting plate. Push the top edge of the microwave up so that it is flush with the plate and in the position that you want it to hang above the stove.

Open up the cabinet above your stove and, using the electric screwdriver, insert the two top cabinet screws provided with the device through the bottom of the cabinet into the holes on the top of the microwave. Place washers between the screw and the cabinet to prevent damage to the cabinet. When finished, plug the power cord of your microwave into a grounded outlet.
