Repair for a GE Microwave Handle

GE utilizes handles on its over-the-range microwave models, and on many of its built-in models. The microwave handle pulls open the microwave door to provide access to the microwave's internal cavity. After prolonged usage, the door handle may become loose or may break. Repairing or replacing the door handle is a straightforward process, and no service technician is required to diagnose and repair or replace the door handle.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the microwave from the wall outlet. The microwave power cable is typically plugged into an outlet located in the cabinet above the microwave.

    • 2

      Open the microwave door.

    • 3

Pry the inner plastic panel of the microwave door off, using a flat-head screwdriver. Be careful when prying so that you do not crack or break the plastic panel.

    • 4

Tighten the screws securing the door handle to the door if the handle is loose, using a flat-head or Phillips screwdriver.

    • 5

Remove the screws if the handle is broken or in need of replacement.

    • 6

Align the new handle up with the screw holes, then secure the handle using the screws removed from the original handle.

    • 7

Align the plastic cover on the inside of the microwave, then snap it back into place.

    • 8

      Restore power to the microwave.
