How to Replace a Sharp Microwave Turntable Coupler

The turntable on your Sharp microwave rotates using a small motor and a coupler. The coupler is the plastic portion you see when lifting the turntable out of the microwave. When the turntable does not turn properly it might be necessary to replace the plastic coupler. The inside of the coupler can ream out especially when heavy items are placed on the turntable. Replacing a Sharp microwave turntable coupler requires a replacement which is available at appliance service centers.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Sharp microwave power cord from the wall outlet. Open the microwave door and pull out the glass turntable.

    • 2

Wrap masking tape over the end of a flat-head screwdriver. The tape helps to protect the finish on the inside of the microwave.

    • 3

Insert the tip of the screwdriver between the bottom of the microwave and the turntable coupler. Pry the coupler straight off the motor shaft. The coupler snaps on and off and might require some force to remove it from the shaft.

    • 4

Line up the flat portion of the hole in the new coupler with the flat side of the motor shaft. Push the coupler over the shaft with your thumb until it snaps into place.

    • 5

Place the turntable over the coupler and close the Sharp microwave door. Plug the power cord back into the wall socket.
