General Electric (GE) dominates the microwave oven industry and strives for innovation, according to "Consumer Reports." The company sells over-the-range, built-in and countertop models of these appliances with about 100 models to choose from. They are branded as GE, GE Cafe or GE Profile microwaves.
  1. GE PSA2201RSS

    • One of the GE microwaves with the highest price tag is the PSA2201RSS, which measures 30 inches wide, 16.375 inches high and 16 inches deep. This over-the-range microwave offers 1.7 cubic feet of cooking space, 10 power levels and 975 watts of cooking power. It features a stainless-steel interior and 13.6-inch turntable. GE says the PSA2201RSS can cook food eight times faster than a conventional oven. It includes convection cooking and a warming setting. The manufacturer suggests a retail price of $1,299 for this model in 2010, which is finished in stainless steel. The black (PSA2200RBB) and white (PSA2200RWW) models cost about $100 less.

    GE PSA1200RBB

    • You get 10 power levels and 925 watts of cooking power in this black appliance, which is designed for installation over a range. The PSA1200RBB is 29.9375 inches wide, 16.4375 inches high and 15.375 inches deep. It includes two, full-width oven racks so you can cook more than one dish at a time. With its stainless-steel interior and convection cooking, this model has a suggested price of $899. The white version (PSA1200RWW) carried the same price while the model finished with stainless steel and black (PSA1201RSS) cost about $100 more.

    GE JES1142SJ

    • This countertop microwave falls at the low end of the GE price range with a suggested cost of $119. It measures 21.25 inches wide, 11.875 inches high and 15.75 inches dep. The JES1142SJ has a stainless-steel exterior and 1.1 cubic feet of capacity. It provides 1100 watts of cooking power and a 12.8-inch turntable. The model offers electronic controls and 10 power levels as well as express settings for pizza, popcorn and beverages.

    GE PSB1000NWW

    • Designed for installation in a cabinet, this white appliance is one of GE's built-in microwaves. It offers convection cooking and a specialized setting that enables dough to rise quickly. The PSB1000NWW provides 10 power levels and 975 watts along with a stainless-steel interior. It has a 16-inch turntable and a wire oven rack. GE says a 13x9-inch pan can fully rotate in this microwave. The 1.6-cubic-foot unit has a suggested price of $1,549 as does its black counterpart (PSB1000NBB). The version that mixes black with stainless steel (PSB1001NSS) costs about $200 more.
