How do I Install the Over the Range Microwave Oven Panasonic NN-S254?

Installing an over-the-range microwave oven is a great way of increasing your kitchen's counter-top space. Installing the oven is fairly straightforward but sometimes awkward; enlist the help of an assistant if possible. Before you begin, you'll need a 30-inch-wide cabinet above the range to secure the oven and at least 30 inches of space from the bottom of the cabinet to the top of the range. You will also need a dedicated 15-amp, 120-volt grounded outlet for the microwave plug.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the microwave, mounting bracket, mounting template, mounting screws and other related components from the packaging.

    • 2

Establish whether your microwave requires top exhaust or recirculating ventilation and adjust the ventilation mode accordingly.

    • 3

Place the mounting template on the underside of the cabinet over the range and mark the holes illustrated on the template. Drill holes in the cabinet base that correspond to these positions.

    • 4

Locate at least one vertical stud in the wall directly under the cabinet. If you have only one stud, place the microwave mounting bracket on the wall directly below the cabinet and place a pencil mark on the wall through one of the pre-drilled holes at the location of the stud. If the stud is in the center, make two other marks a few inches either side of the stud at positions where wall anchors may be placed. If you have one stud to the left or right of the center point, just mark one additional hole for the wall anchor. If you have two studs, attach the bracket to the wall with the drill-driver and move to Step 6.

    • 5

Drill a hole in the wall that corresponds with the size of wall anchor(s) you are using. Push the anchor though the hole in the bracket then push the anchor(s) into the hole in the wall. Tighten the screw to secure the bracket to the wall with the anchor(s), then install a screw though the bracket and into the stud.

    • 6

Drill a one-and-a-half-inch hole in the cabinet that houses the outlet. Lift the microwave up and push the plug through the hole. Pull the wire though but do not plug it in yet.

    • 7

Position the brackets on the rear of the microwave to rest onto the wall bracket supports. Push the microwave up and into position under the cabinet. Insert the upper mounting screws through the holes in the cabinet base and into the top of the microwave--use a screwdriver to turn the screws as the drill-driver could over-tighten them.

    • 8

Plug the microwave in and test its operation.
