How to Install an Amana ACO1860AW

Perhaps no other recent cooking invention has had more of an impact on how we prepare and cook food than the microwave oven. First met with a great deal of skepticism and initial concerns over the adverse health impact microwave heated foods might have, such concerns have all but evaporated. Nowadays, no self-respecting kitchen, commercial or domestic, is without one. Amana remains one of the major producers of these appliances, and its model ACO1860AW is one of the best it makes. As with any electrically powered device, cooking or otherwise, to get the maximum use out of it, correct and code compliant installation is key.

Instructions

Check the back of the cabinet to confirm the electrical outlet for the unit. It should be a dedicated 120 volt outlet or a standard appliance outlet. Cut the vent holes through the bottom of the cabinet and roof and install the venting system in accordance to manufacturer and local code requirements. Keep duct length short and 90-degree turns as few as possible.

Route the exhaust to the outside rather than the attic or back out into the room.

Open the unit and remove all the shipping contents and lay them within reach. Cover the work surface directly under the Amana microwave. Remove the mounting plate screws. Identify the exhaust ring/adaptor, hardware packet and filters. Slip the exhaust adaptor onto the blower plate using the guides.

Use the measuring tape to find the exact center on the back wall. Find two mounting studs with the use of the stud finder. Make sure the mounting space is 30 inches by 30 inches or slightly more, not less. Center the Amana ACO1860AW's mounting plate onto the two located studs at four locations that line up with the mount tabs on the back of the oven.

Self-tapping screws are easier to drive into hard surfaces.

Attach the plate with the toggle bolts, if the plate does not line up with the studs in the wall. Guide the attached exhaust adaptor onto the duct you installed earlier. Make sure the duct is correctly aligned before attaching it with the self-tapping screws.

Lift the oven into its prepared and vented hole. Tilt it forward enough to route the power cord through. Now, rotate the oven front up enough to drop in the lock pin and washer. Mount the retaining bolts and washers through the bottom of the upper cabinet and tighten them down, gradually closing the gap between the microwave and cabinet. Remove the lock pin and washer and plug in the power cord.
