Many ceramic, plastic and glass containers are labeled microwave-safe and are easy to use for cooking food or reheating leftovers. Avoid using containers that purchased food comes in, such as soft margarine or whipped topping packages as these commonly melt or release chemicals into food when exposed to microwaves.
Wax paper, parchment paper or white microwave-safe paper towels are safe for microwave use. Food cooking bags also work well, as does plastic wrap specially designed and labeled for safe microwave cooking.
Aluminum foil, plastic storage or grocery bags, brown paper grocery bags and newspaper should never be used in microwave ovens. These materials may pose fire hazards and sometimes emit harmful chemicals when heated.
