My GE Spacemaker Microwave Won't Shut Off

GE Spacemaker microwaves, which are mounted above ranges, include built-in cooling fans. The fan operates while the microwave is in use and continues to run after cooking is complete to ensure proper cool-down of the microwave, the surface to which it is secured and the surrounding area. The fan sometimes creates confusion: Some consumers mistake the sound of the fan as an indication that the microwave itself has failed to properly turn off.

     Locate the "Vent Fan" button on the front of the microwave. The vent fan turns on any time the microwave is in operation. The fan often turns off when the microwave finishes cooking. If the temperature around the appliance is warm enough, the vent fan will continue to blow.

     Wait for the microwave to stop cooking, which is signified by "00:00" in the display.

     Press "Vent Fan" to turn off the fan.
