How to Troubleshoot a GE Spacemaker 1800XL Microwave

The GE Spacemaker 1800 XL microwave boasts a 1.8 cubic foot interior so you can defrost or cook large items. While this feature may be handy, it won't do you much good if you can't get the appliance to function correctly. Fortunately, you can fix many common issues with this microwave without any tools or costly service calls. Many times the problem can be fixed in minutes so you can start cooking again right away.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the outlet that your GE microwave is plugged into if it will not turn on. You can plug a different device into the outlet to determine if the problem is due to the microwave or the outlet. If the outlet does not work, check your circuit breaker to see if you need to be reset it.

    • 2

Unplug the GE microwave and plug it back in to see if it begins working. If the plug is not fully inserted into the socket, the microwave might not work.

    • 3

Press down the "off" button for three seconds if the words "LOCKED" or "CONTROL LOCKED" appear on the display screen. The microwave will not operate while it is locked.

    • 4

Close the door securely before you try to use the microwave. The appliance will not operate with the door open.

    • 5

Keep the door closed when you are using the sensor feature of your GE spacemaker microwave. This feature detects steam to determine how long your food should cook. If you open the door before it has detected the steam, the words "SENSOR ERROR" will appear on the display screen. Press the "clear/off" button to cancel the cooking cycle and start over if this happens.
