Difference Between Maytag Mmv5208 & Mmv5201

Maytag's line of over-the-range microwave ovens combine convenience and functionality by melding together a range hood exhaust fan with a microwave oven that is sized perfectly for residential kitchens. This combined design allows for space to be maximized in the kitchen, freeing up valuable counter space that would have been otherwise occupied by a standard microwave oven. There are a few differences between two of Maytag's most recent microhoods, the MMV5208 and the MMV5201D.
  1. Appearance

    • There are some slight differences in the dimensions of the MMV5208 and the MMV5201D. The 5201 is slightly shorter and not quite as deep, with the dimensions coming in at 15 1/8 inches for the depth and a height of 15 7/8 inches. The 5208 in only a little bit larger at a depth of 15 3/4 inches and a height of 17 1/4 inches. Both are 29 7/8 inches wide, have a two cubic foot capacity and look basically the same from the outside.

    Power Specifications

    • The 5201 model has one more power level than the 5208's 10 levels, but it's exhaust fan only has three speeds whereas the 5208 has four. The 5201 model has 1100 watts of power, and the the 5208 comes in slightly lower at 1050 watts. Both microwaves have incandescent interior lights and digital data display screens.

    Controls

    • Both microwaves have preset cooking controls such as popcorn, baked potato and quick defrost, but the 5208 has a staged cooking option that allows you to to change the cook time based on options of weight and food type. All of the other cooking controls are similar, including options like a one touch 30 second extension, a kids meals setting and a one touch reheat setting.

    Other Differences

    • Both models feature a removable rack for dual level cooking, a 300 CFM ventilation fan and charcoal filter, but the 5208 has a special turntable feature that moves the turntable back and forth during cooking to allow food to cook more evenly. The 5208 also has a "keep warm" setting to use the microwave as a warming drawer when you are cooking. While the 5201 lacks the "keep warm" setting, it has a "melt/soften" setting that allows to you easily melt cheese and chocolate without scorching.
