How to Wire a Convection Microwave

Convection microwaves are designed to allow cooking and baking of foods that conventional microwaves cannot. These appliances use circulating fans that facilitate faster browning and baking of cakes and pies, impossible in a normal microwave oven. Wiring a convection microwave oven is similar to wiring other conventional ovens, using wire nuts and a junction box.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure the oven is not plugged into the wall socket. Access the rear of the oven. Find the small plus-shaped junction pad on the rear.

    • 2

Loosen the captive screws with the appropriate screwdriver. Slide the red and black wires on the power cord into the "Hot" terminals on the junction pad. Which one goes where is irrelevant.

    • 3

Connect the white wire on the power cord to the "Neutral" terminal on the junction pad. The green wire connects to the "Ground" terminal. Tighten all the screws down on the junction pad with the appropriate screwdriver.

    • 4

Turn off the breaker feeding the outlet at the main electrical panel.

    • 5

Loosen the screws on the rear of the 220 volt outlet. Insert the wires into the back of the outlet, following the same orientation as that on the back of the oven.

    • 6

Push the outlet into the junction box on the wall. Secure the outlet using the supplied small flat head screws, driven through the small holes at the top and bottom of the outlet's mounting plate. Drive these into the receiving holes on the junction box.

    • 7

Place the outlet cover over the outlet. Screw the included Philips or flat head screw through the plate and into the outlet to secure it.

    • 8

Plug the oven's power cord into the outlet. Turn the breaker feeding the appliance back on at the main electrical panel.
