How to Troubleshoot a Kenmore 1100-Watt Microwave

Kenmore makes a variety of 1100-watt microwaves, such as models 66222 and 66229. Regardless of which specific 1100-watt Kenmore microwave you have in your home, the same usage and troubleshooting techniques apply. If you are experiencing some problems with your Kenmore microwave, a little troubleshooting on your own may save an expensive service repair.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the microwave from the wall outlet and plug it back in if you are having problems with the microwave control panel. Sometimes when a Kenmore 1100-watt microwave has been unplugged for too long, the internal computer can get scrambled. Unplugging and replugging it in resets the computer.

Test your wall outlet by plugging in a lamp or another electronic device to make sure the outlet works. Do this if your microwave will not power on. This allows you to see if the wall outlet is faulty.

    • 3

Change cooking times to a lower time limit if you are experiencing food that is dry or that has a brown, hard spot in the middle after being cooked in the microwave. It just means that you are cooking stuff too long.

    • 4

Remove cookware if you are experiencing sparking in the microwave. You can only use microwave-safe cookware in the microwave. Using cookware that is not microwave-safe will also result in unevenly cooked food. The microwave will also spark if you power it on with nothing in it.
