Troubleshooting a Goldstar Microwave Oven

GoldStar Appliances specialized in consumer appliances, including dehumidifiers and microwaves. As of early 2011, the company's website had not been updated since 2007. If you are experiencing an issue with your microwave, you can try troubleshooting the issue yourself before calling a service technician. You may have trouble locating a certified GoldStar technician. Always take the proper safety precautions before working your microwave, including unplugging it from the wall.
  1. Not Operating

    • If your GoldStar microwave is not working, plug your microwave into an outlet, and turn the power on. Check the circuit breaker for tripped circuits or blown fuses. Plug power cord snugly into the outlet, and do not plug any other appliances in the same outlet as the microwave. If your oven will not cook your food, completely close the oven door, and put the microwave on the correct setting. Always hit the cook function and not just the timer.

    Cooking Problems

    • If your food is not cooked enough, follow the recipe instructions, and defrost your food before you start cooking it. Move the microwave to a separate circuit if the those two solutions don't fix the problem. Check your recipe to prevent overcooking your food. To avoid uneven cooking issues, defrost your food and place it in an evenly shaped dish. Change the microwave's power level if your food takes too long to cook.

    Sparks/Power

    • Sparks usually occur in your microwave if you have something metal inside. Remove any metallic pieces immediately. Remove any twist ties from your food. Do not use dishes with silver or gold powder. Check your metal racks, and re-install them if they are not installed correctly. Check the line voltage if you are not getting enough power.

    Display

    • Your microwave will not keep the right time if the microwave power cord does not fit snugly in the outlet. Remove any other appliance from the same electrical outlet as the microwave, since this will draw power away from your GoldStar microwave. If your timer is counting down, but your food is not cooking, try closing the microwave door. Your microwave oven will not work if the door is even slightly ajar. Always use the cooking function and not just the timer.
