Troubleshooting a Maytag MMV5100AAQ

Maytag, a brand of appliances sold by the Whirlpool Corporation, sells consumer home appliances, including microwaves like the MMV5100AAQ microwave, which is an older microwave that the company no longer sells, but you can still purchase replacement parts for this microwave. Always troubleshoot issues with your microwave before calling the company for service.
  1. Cooking

    • If your food is not cooking enough in your MMV5100AAQ microwave, defrost it first and verify that you have it on the proper setting. Always use the proper power setting. Look at the ventilation ports on the outside of the microwave, and check that nothing is blocking them. Do not use metal items in the microwave as these cause your foods to cook incorrectly, and they also create sparks. Stir foods throughout the cooking process to ensure that the food cooks evenly. Always properly cover foods to prevent over-drying.

    Power

    • If the microwave oven won't turn on, verify that the power cord is plugged into a live outlet. Test the outlet with another appliance. Completely close the microwave oven door. Never plug another appliance into the same electrical circuit as the microwave because this can draw power away from the microwave. Look at the fuses in your home, and replace if blown. Reset the circuit breaker if tripped. If the oven is counting down, but the food is not cooking, check that you have selected a cooking setting and have not just set the timer.

    Errors

    • You receive "Error 1" if you open the door before you see the countdown in the display. Hit the "Stop/Clear" button to clear the entry, and reset the "Timed Cooking" function. The "Error 2" message indicates that you have removed the power cord from an outlet for over 5 minutes. Select "Stop/Clear" to clear the error, and allow the microwave to sit for five minutes. Restart your cycle. If the "Lock" code appears, you have set the control lock setting. Hold the "Start" button down for four seconds.

    Sound/Turntable

    • If your Maytag microwave is not making a beeping sound at the end of the cooking cycle, the alert tone is turned off. Turn back on the beep by hitting the "Options" button three times, and press "1" for the "On" setting. If the turntable won't move, clean underneath the turntable, and clean the rollers. Reset the turntable so that it fits properly on the rollers. Press the "Turntable On/Off" key to turn the turntable back on if it's turned off.
