Sharp Microwave User Guide

The Sharp Corporation of Osaka, Japan, manufactures consumer and commercial electronic products, including microwave ovens. It sells countertop, over-the-range and over-the-counter microwave ovens that range in capacity from less than a cubic foot to 2 cubic feet as of early 2011. Sharp recommends that you properly maintain your microwave to extend the overall life, and troubleshoot minor problems to avoid service fees.
  1. Cooking

    • Always defrost foods to reduce cooking times. Cover foods to keep them from drying out, especially casseroles and vegetables. Pierce foods with membranes, like potatoes and tomatoes, to let steam out. Use only small pieces of aluminum foil to keep foods from drying out. Do not use a lot of aluminum foil, as this can cause sparking. Only use microwave-safe cookware. Always follow recipe cooking instructions to prevent under- or overcooking.

    Installation

    • Plug your Sharp microwave into a grounded 120-volt outlet. Do not attach another appliance to the same circuit as the microwave, as this can draw power away from the microwave. Never use an ungrounded plug, as this can cause the microwave to shock you. If you must use an extension cord or adapter, use only a three-wire extension cord or a three-prong adapter. Move other appliances away from the microwave to reduce interference. If the microwave is still interfering with other appliances, check the door gaskets. Replace the gaskets if they are worn or brittle.

    Cleaning

    • Always clean up spills or extra food from the microwave as soon as they happen. If you don't, this can cause sparking inside your microwave. Sparking can burn the interior of your microwave. If the waveguide is damaged, you must replace it. Use a clean, damp cloth and soapy water to clean the door and exterior of the microwave. Clean the control panel with a mildly wet cloth, and do not use chemical cleaners on this component. Use a damp cloth to clean the inside of the microwave, or use scouring pads to remove baked-on food items. If your microwave has an odor, mix 1 cup of water with the juice of one lemon and cloves. Turn the microwave to the maximum setting, and let the water boil for a few minutes. Then wipe down the inside with a dry cloth.

    Troubleshooting

    • If the turntable (plate) is not turning properly, reposition it on the carousel. Clean beneath the turntable if it's sticking. Clean the door gaskets if the Sharp microwave doors won't close properly. If your microwave is not heating properly, put 1 cup of water in the microwave and microwave it for 1 minute at the highest setting. If the water won't boil, you have a problem with your magnetron.
