Maytag Microwave Stopped

Maytag is a brand of appliances sold by the Whirlpool Corporation. The company offers over-the-range and countertop microwave ovens. Microwave ovens use microwaves to heat and cook your food. If you oven won't cook your food, troubleshoot the problem, and see if you can fix it before contacting the company for assistance. Do not attempt major repairs on your microwave, as you can seriously shock yourself, even if the microwave is unplugged.
  1. Home Power

    • If your Maytag microwave stops working, verify that the power cord fits into the outlet. Do not plug in another appliance into the same outlet as the microwave, as this draws too much power away from the microwave. See if the outlet is live by plugging a different appliance into the outlet. Check your home circuit breaker or fuses. If the breaker is tripped, reset it. Change out any fuses that have broken wires or are black.

    Magnetron

    • If your microwave isn't running, test the magnetron. The magnetron is responsible for creating the microwave energy. Place 1 cup of cold water inside the microwave, and set the oven to the highest setting. Run the microwave for two minutes. If the water is not hot after the time is done, your magnetron is defective. This is a complicated repair for consumers. Contact a service technician for assistance.

    Door

    • You must completely close the door of the microwave for the oven to start. Remove all of the packaging material, and clean the door gaskets if they are dirty. Examine the gaskets, and see if they are torn or falling off. You must replace the gaskets. If an error message appears, open the door and reclose it. This message comes on to prevent you from unintentionally starting the microwave. If the microwave still won't start, check the door latch and door release. If either of these components is broken, you must replace the whole door, since it's difficult to repair these individual components.

    Additional Concerns

    • Your Maytag microwave may experience a power outage. This causes the display to flash, and you can't run the microwave. Disconnect the power cord from the power supply for about 10 seconds, and plug the cord back in. Try turning on the microwave. Check the thermal fuse. This fuse is located in the main housing of the microwave. Disconnect the microwave from the power source, and remove the main housing. See if the fuse is blown. If it is blown, contact a service technician.
