My Maytag Microwave Stove Fan Won't Work

Over-the-range microwave ovens often incorporate an extraction fan that vents air from inside the microwave into an exhaust duct. Maytag microwave fans are often automatic, switching on when the microwave is in use. Troubleshooting problems with your microwave fan helps restore your oven to life without calling a technician or service company. Problems with the oven's software or settings sometimes keep the fan from working correctly.

Instructions

Touch the microwave's "Vent Fan" button; the fan should start running if the microwave isn't running. Alternatively, press "Options" or "Setup" and scroll to the "Vent Fan" sub-menu. Here you disable the fan or set it to run for a set period of time. The fan might be switched off if it doesn't run when you start the microwave.

Disconnect the microwave from its power supply and wait approximately five minutes. Plug the appliance back in and try activating the fan a second time. An internal software problem may have been preventing the microwave fan starting correctly. Resetting the computer in this way often helps resolve the problem.

Turn on the fan using the controls on your stove top; the vent might not be adjustable via the microwave. Look for a button with a fan icon or text; the button or switch is sometimes located on the hood covering the stove. The exact location of the fan button varies depending on your stove model.
