Above Stove

• If you use your microwave frequently, it's important to have the appliance in a convenient location. Many people place their microwaves on special mounts directly above the stove. Because you may spend plenty of your cooking time standing in front of the stove, the above-stove mounting location is ideal because you can access the microwave without, for example, stopping from stirring something on a burner. This location is also ideal because it saves counter space.

On the Counter

• Provided you have adequate counter space in your kitchen, placing your microwave directly on the countertop is a common option. The microwave will be within reach of shorter family members, whereas mounting it above the stove may prevent children from reaching it. When located on the counter, it's easy to access and you can lift it out of the way when cleaning your counters.

In a Cabinet or Cupboard

• Depending on the amount of cupboard or cabinet space in your kitchen, you may be able to place your microwave in an upper, lower or specialty cupboard. Doing so is only possible if there is a power outlet in the cupboard. Because microwaves are so common, many kitchens include cupboards or cabinets specifically meant to house the microwave. This area can be covered by doors or left open for easy access.

On a Cart

• Many people keep wheeled carts in their kitchen as a form of movable, convenient island. This type of structure is conducive to holding a microwave, provided there's a place to store the cart adjacent to a power outlet. A two-level cart is handy, as you can keep the microwave on the lower shelf and serving supplies, for example, on the upper level.
