How to Repair the Control Panel on a Sharp R-1501 Microwave

The Sharp R-1501 is a over-the-range microwave, designed to be installed above a range or stove-top. The R-1501 has a built-in light on the underside of the unit, as well as a hood fan on the underside of the oven. All of the oven's functions are controlled by a control panel, located on the right-side of the oven. The control panel also has an LCD display that displays the time of day, buttons pressed and cook time. If the control panel malfunctions, the microwave will not function until it is replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the microwave from the wall outlet prior to disassembling.

    • 2

Open the microwave door. Remove the screws securing the grill above the door opening to the microwave. Remove the grill.

    • 3

Remove the screw located at the top of the control panel, which is now visible with the grill removed.

    • 4

Lift the control panel up to release the tabs securing it in place. Move it away from the microwave.

    • 5

Look at the rear of the control panel to any disconnected wires that may have caused the control panel to stop functioning. If wires are disconnected, reconnect them, reassemble the microwave and determine if the problem is still occurring. If the problem still occurs, replace the control panel.

    • 6

Transfer the wires from the old control panel to the new control panel.

    • 7

Move the panel back against the microwave's control panel housing. Slide it down to lock it into position.

    • 8

Install the screw at the top of the control panel.

    • 9

Replace the grill on the top of the microwave. Secure it using the screws that were removed.

    • 10

      Restore power to the microwave.
