Removal of a Whirlpool Microwave

Removing an old Whirlpool microwave from your kitchen cabinets may seem like a daunting task, but it is not difficult if you have someone to hold the unit while you disconnect the mounting hardware. For your safety, shut off the kitchen's electrical power from the circuit breaker switch before removing the microwave.
  1. Electrical Wiring

    • The location of your Whirlpool microwave's electrical wiring depends on the configuration of your home's kitchen cabinets. Most residential microwaves plug into an outlet in or near the cabinet, but some may be wired directly into the home's electrical system.

    Mounting Hardware

    • Your microwave attaches to the kitchen cabinet via a mounting bracket. Remove any screws around the front of the microwave or on the sides of the cabinet to release the microwave.

    Trim

    • You may have to remove the plastic trim around the microwave. This trim hides the power cord and covers the gaps between the microwave and kitchen cabinet.
