How to Mount an LG Over-the-Range Microwave

An LG-brand over-the-range microwave functions as your kitchen's exhaust fan, freeing up counter space versus traditional microwaves by mounting to the wall directly above your stove. Before you begin the installation of your over-the-range microwave, make sure you have all of the required tools and are comfortable performing all of the steps. In addition to the required tools, you should have an additional person to help hold and steady the microwave on the wall during installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a tape measure to find the center position on the back wall, both side cabinets and the upper cabinet. Mark the center positions with a pencil.

    • 2

Locate the studs with a stud finder and mark their locations with a pencil.

    • 3

Align the templates included with your microwave so the center indicator is aligned with the center mark you identified in Step 1. Tape all four templates (two side templates, one rear template and one upper template) into position.

    • 4

Drill the holes labeled with the letters A, B and C. If you are drilling into a stud, use a 3/16-inch bit. Where no stud is present, drill holes with a ¾-inch bit.

    • 5

Locate the hole templates marked with letters D, E and J, and drill them using a ½-inch bit.

    • 6

Locate the hole template marked with the letter M in the upper cabinet and drill a hole that is 1¾-inches in diameter. This will be the hole for the power cord.

    • 7

Place the mounting plate into position and mark the holes located at A, B, C and D.

    • 8

Mount the plate into position by using toggle bolts in any areas where a stud isn't available and a 3-inch wood screw where there is a stud.

    • 9

With the help of another person, lift the oven into position and allow it to rest on the support tabs that are located on the mounting plate.

    • 10

Run the oven's power cord through the hold you drilled in Step 5.

    • 11

Slide the microwave into position so it is flush with the upper cabinet, and insert the 3¼-inch-by-3-inch bolts down through the holes in the upper cabinet.

    • 12

Secure the oven's power cord into position with a cord clamp and plug the unit in.

    • 13

Install the grease filters and remove any plastic packaging before using the oven.
