Installation Instructions for a GE Spacemaker Xl1800

The installation instructions for a GE Spacemaker Xl1800 are straightforward as most over the range microwaves built by GE attach to the wall in a similar manner. Not only does the GE Spacemaker XI1800 reduce the amount of countertop space required, it allows you to use a ventless system where you can filter and then vent fresh air back into the kitchen. This process reduces the mount of installation work you must do and allows you to install the microwave in kitchens without a built-in vent system.

Instructions

    • 1

Center the mounting bracket for the microwave directly under the cabinet with the bottom of the bracket at least 30 inches above the range.

    • 2

Mark each mounting hole for the bracket onto the wall then set the mounting bracket off to the side.

    • 3

Drill pilot holes at each marked location if they go into studs. If you must go directly into drywall, drill the hole large enough for toggle bolts. Toggle bolts have a collapsible wing nut that must fit though a larger hole.

    • 4

Place the cabinet template on the bottom of the cabinet and drill out the holes in the locations specified on the template.

    • 5

Secure the mounting bracket to the wall with the screws and/or toggle bolts.

    • 6

Place the electrical cord up through the hole in the bottom of the cabinet so you can plug it into the electrical outlet. Do this at the same time that you lift the microwave onto the mounting bracket. The bracket has a lip on the bottom edge. The lip fits into a recess on the back of the microwave.

    • 7

Drive the supplied screws down through the holes you drilled in the cabinet and into the top of the microwave to secure the appliance to the cabinet.

    • 8

Place the recirculation filter into the slotted vent located on the front of the microwave. This allows the microwave to filter then vent fresh air back into the kitchen.
