How to Mount Microwaves Over Gas Stoves

Installing a microwave above your stove saves space in the kitchen. The procedure for installing a microwave over a stove is the same whether the stove is electric or gas. it is not a difficult project and will take about an hour. However, it does require an assistant because of the weight of the microwave. It is difficult to try to lift the microwave and mount it by yourself.

      Turn off the power for the kitchen circuit at the breaker box. Find the studs in the mounting area using a stud finder. Mark the location of each stud on the wall using a pencil. Place the mounting bracket template on the wall and level it. Tape it into place so it doesn't move. When placing the template, try to line it up so you are able to mount the bracket into the studs.

      Mark the locations on the wall where the mounting hardware will go, using a pencil. Use toggle anchors for the bracket in locations where there are no studs to mount the bracket to. Mark these locations with the pencil so you know to drill a larger hole for the toggle anchors. Drill the necessary holes at the marks using a drill and drill bit. Install the mounting bracket on the wall using the hardware in the installation kit and a Phillips screwdriver.

      Connect the electrical wire to the kitchen circuit. Red or black wires are hot. The white or gray wire is neutral, and the ground wire will be green or bare. Connect the wires accordingly and install wire nuts over the splices. Wrap the wires with electrical tape to prevent the wire nuts from coming off. Drill a hole through the bottom of the cabinet for the electrical wire using a drill and drill bit.

      Drill holes in the bottom of the cabinet for the mounting bolts using a drill and drill bit. Lift the microwave into place on the bracket. As you put the microwave in place, feed the electrical wire through the hole that you drilled for it. Mount the microwave to the bracket and install the mounting bolts to the top of the microwave through the bottom of the cabinet using a Phillips screwdriver. Connect the wires to the microwave according to color.

      Install wire nuts on the wire splices and wrap the wires with electrical tape. Install the louver at the top of the microwave by snapping it into place. Install the charcoal filter and screen on the bottom of the microwave. Turn the power on for the kitchen circuit at the breaker box. Program the microwave according to manufacturer instructions for your brand.
