How to Install a GE JVM1850WD

If you want to save precious countertop space, the GE JVM1850WD microwave oven is a good solution. The overhead microwave saves space. You need an open space of 30-inches-by-17-inches-by-16-inches in order to install it. The microwave operates on 1000 watts and includes several features, such as "Quick Defrost" and "Clock Plus." Instructions

    • 1

Unpack the microwave and remove the two screws from the mounting plate on top of the unit using a screwdriver.

    • 2

Search the wall for studs using a stud finder. Wall studs make up the wooden framework within the wall, and can support the weight of the microwave. Mark the wall studs with a pencil.

    • 3

Place the mounting plate on the wall. Adjust the mounting plate until holes A, B, C and D are lined up with the wall studs. Mark the hole positions with a pencil.

    • 4

Drill pilot holes through the marks for holes A, B, C and D. Use a 3/16-inch drill bit for holes with wall stud support. Use a 5/8-inch drill bit for holes without wall stud support.

    • 5

Place the mounting plate on the wall. Use a power drill with a screwdriver tip to drive wood screws into the holes and wall stud supports.

    • 6

Use toggle bolts if you are not fastening into wall studs. Unscrew the toggle wings from the bolts, insert the toggle bolts through the holes of the mounting plate and screw the toggle wings back onto the bolts. Close the wings for each bolt and insert them into the matching holes drilled in the wall. Tighten the bolts to secure the mounting plate.

    • 7

Tape the "Top Cabinet Template" to the bottom of the overhead cabinet. Drill three holes for the self-aligning screws where marked on the template.

    • 8

Lift and tilt the microwave. The back end of the microwave should hook to the bottom tabs of the mounting plate.

    • 9

Place a self-aligning screw through the overhead cabinet and turn it at least two full turns. Hold the microwave against the wall. You should have an assistant to support the microwave oven in place as you do this.

    • 10

Place the other two self-aligning screws into the holes in the overhead cabinet. Tighten the screws into the microwave.
