How to Disconnect an Attached Microwave

Attached or under-the-cabinet microwaves are designed to give a homeowner more counter space. These cooking and heating appliances are ideal for small or large kitchens. They often are installed over an oven and most come equipped with an exhaust fan system. These appliances also may be attached to a wall or placed in another area, such as a finished basement. An attached microwave should be removed with the help of a family member or friend.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your cabinet doors directly over your attached microwave oven to expose the power cord. Unplug the power cord before attempting to detach the appliance.

    • 2

Tape the door shut with duct tape, then locate the retaining bolts in the bottom of the cabinet above your attached microwave.

    • 3

Ask your assistant to hold the underside of your attached microwave.

    • 4

Unfasten and remove the retaining bolts going through the bottom of the cabinet into the appliance using pliers or a wrench. The appliance should be detached and can be pulled out of the recess under the cabinet. Place the bolts in a sandwich bag.
