Replacing the Light Bulb in a GE Advantium Microwave

Unlike most microwaves, the GE Advantium does not have an internal light. The oven cooks using special 500-watt halogen heating bulb, a 375-watt ceramic heater and a standard microwave magnetron to ensure food is cooked through and crisp on the surface. The oven has a "surface light" that illuminates the cooking surface below the oven in the same way as the light in the range hood. Replacing this bulb when it burns out is simple with common tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the microwave oven from the wall or disconnect the power at the circuit breaker.

    • 2

Remove the screw on the right side of the light bulb cover and let it hang down.

    • 3

Pull the bulb out of its socket carefully; the bulb could be hot if it was recently used.

    • 4

Push a new 120-volt (20-watt max) bulb into the slot, replace the cover and tighten the screw. See Tips for more bulb information.

Connect the power supply and test the bulb using the "Surface Light" button in the bottom right corner of the control panel.
