Unplug the Kenmore microwave, or turn off the circuit breaker to the microwave.
Remove the one or two screws securing the grill plate to the microwave with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The screws are in between the top two fins of the grill on each corner. Certain models use only one screw on the right side, while others have one on each side.
Grab the top of the grill with your fingers. Shift the grill plate to the left, and pull the top of the grill plate away from the microwave. Once the top is clear, lift up to remove the grill plate completely from the Kenmore microwave.
