How to Dismount a Microwave Oven

Wall-mounted microwave ovens connect to the underside of the cabinetry below them, as well as to a steel mounting bracket bolted into the wall itself. Dismounting the appliance takes less than half an hour when you enlist a friend to help hold the microwave while you remove the hardware. If you plan to replace the appliance, check the measurements on the mounting bracket, as it may be compatible with the new microwave. If it is the correct size and in proper condition, you won't have to install a new mounting bracket.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the microwave's power cord. If it is not connected to a visible outlet on the wall, open the cabinet over the appliance to locate the power socket.

    • 2

Extract the screws inside the cabinet bottom where it attaches to the microwave while your helper holds the appliance from below.

    • 3

Pull forward on the bottom front edge of the microwave as you push upward to disengage the steel prongs on the back of the appliance from the notches on the wall bracket. You can now lower the appliance to the stove surface or countertop.

    • 4

Pull the power cord downward and guide the plug out of the cabinet hole to free the cord.
