How to Replace a Light in a Sears Microwave Oven

Do not be left in the dark when the light in your Sears microwave oven burns out. Sears is an American department store that sells its own brand of kitchen appliances using the Kenmore name. Most Kenmore models have an interior oven light that illuminates when the door is open or the oven is turned on. Some models are mounted to the cabinetry above your kitchen range and have a work light underneath to illuminate the stove top.

Instructions

  1. Oven Light

    • 1

Unplug the oven from the electric outlet. Turn off the circuit breaker in the main breaker box if your oven is hard-wired.

    • 2

Open the oven door. Remove the vent cover screws at the top of the oven opening with a Phillips screwdriver. Slide the vent to the left, and then pull it straight out and remove it from the oven.

    • 3

Pull the bulb holder straight up, and then pull it straight out of the bulb cavity revealed after removing the vent. Pull the bulb straight out of the holder and discard it.

    • 4

Handle the replacement bulb using a tissue or rubber kitchen gloves to avoid getting fingerprints on the glass portion of the bulb, which can shorten the life of the bulb. Push the bulb into the bulb holder until it is fully seated.

    • 5

Push the bulb holder back into the bulb cavity, and then push down to lock it into place. Position the vent cover to the top of the oven opening and slide it to the right. Replace the retaining screws and tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver. Plug the unit back in or turn on the circuit breaker.
