Place the microwave in a standard cabinet space that is 24-inches to 30-inches wide -- always measure the space to ensure you buy a microwave that fits. Take off the mounting plate by first setting the microwave on its side. Press on the levers on either side on the bottom of the microwave to remove the mounting plate.
Refer to the instructions located on the top cabinet template and mounting plate template to know where to place the drill holes so you can attach the microwave to the cabinet and wall. The template allows you to space the drill holes correctly based on the brand and size of microwave you have to attach and hold the mounting plate in place.
Locate a stud in the wall with a stud finder. Studs are spaced 16 to 24 inches apart. Place the template on the wall and drill holes where indicated through so at least one enters the stud. Remove the template.
Secure the two scale plates on either side at the top of the opening with masking tape. The scale plates help you attach the mounting plate in the correct position on the wall. Place the toggle nuts onto the toggle bolts. Lay the mounting plate against the wall.
Fit the bolts through the mounting plate and the holes in the wall you drilled in Step 2. The toggle bolts will hold the microwave in place along the drywall where there are no wooden studs. Tighten the toggle bolts. Remove the scale plates from the wall.
Drill wood screws through the mounting plate to attach to the studs. Lift the microwave to the cabinet and push the electrical cord through the hole in the upper cabinet.
Attach the microwave to the mounting plate. Drill in the tapping screws into the bottom levers located on the microwave oven that had held the mounting plate to the microwave. Drill the top cabinet screws and washers through the bottom of the top cabinet to attach the microwave.
Plug in the power cord into the outlet inside the top cabinet and bundle the excess together. Ensure the microwave turns on and set the time.
