Troubleshooting a GE Spacesaver

The GE Spacemaker microwave is designed to fit over a kitchen range, removing the microwave from the counter top to free up work space. This microwave has automatic time and defrost cycles, as well as a spinning turntable, a removable oven rack and a venting system to divert smoke and steam rising from the stove below. Common problems that arise with the microwave include problems with heating or a malfunction of the control panel, which require service visits, but many other issues can be fixed through troubleshooting.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the GE microwave if the unit will not turn on or start and then plug the power cord back into a 3-prong, grounded outlet. Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker if the power cord is not accessible for a power reset. Open and close the door firmly.

    • 2

Press the “Vent Fan” button after the microwave stops cooking if the vent fan continues to blow even when the microwave is no longer cooking.

    • 3

Hold “Clear/Off” for 3 seconds if the control panel is not operating and the microwave oven will not start cooking to release the control lock function.

    • 4

Pull out the temperature probe from the wall of the microwave and then re-insert it if “Bad Probe” or “Please Insert Probe” appears on the display panel, indicating that the probe was not inserted fully.

    • 5

Wait for the microwave sensors to begin a timer for the steam function before opening the door if “Sensor Error” appears on the display during this selection. Add more cooking time if necessary for the steam process.
