Shut off the power for the InSinkErator disposer at the main circuit breaker.
Use a pair of pliers to pull the U-shaped P-trap from the garbage disposal.
Insert the small screwdriver that came with the InSinkErator in the mounting lug on the bottom mounting ring. Slip your hand underneath and push up on the disposal while turning the wrench to the left. Continue turning the wrench until the disposal disconnects from the mounting ring.
Set the disposal on the ground with the bottom facing up. Remove the electrical cover plate with a screwdriver. Disconnect the green ground screw. Remove any wire nuts from the black and white wires and disconnect the wires. Set the disposal aside.
Knock out the dishwasher connection plug on the new InSinkErator if you will be connecting it to a dishwasher.
Turn the InSinkErator upside down. Remove the bottom electrical plate with a screwdriver. Connect the copper ground wire to the green wire or green terminal screw. Connect the white and black wires from the InSinkErator to the wiring circuit. Secure the wires with wire nuts. Carefully push the wires into the InSinkErator body and secure them with the cover plate.
Turn the InSinkErator right side up. Insert it into the mounting ring and slightly turn it to the right to lock it in position. Insert the wrench in the mounting nut and turn to the right until the InSinkErator is secure.
Reconnect the drain line to the outlet on the side of the InSinkErator. Connect the dishwasher hose, if present, and secure it with a hose clamp.
Restore the power to the InSinkErator circuit. Test the appliance. Tighten any clamps or nuts, if needed.
