Instructions for Use of Garbage Disposals

Having a garbage disposal attached to your sink drain makes getting rid of food waste a breeze. Instead of having to scrape each dish clean before washing it, you can simply rinse the food scraps down your drain and into the garbage disposal. Although garbage disposals are relatively simple to use, there are some guidelines you should follow while operating one. These guidelines below prevent clogs and keep your disposal in good working order.

Instructions

    • 1

Run cold water while operating the garbage disposal. The cold water will help solidify greasy food waste so that the garbage disposal can chop up this waste.

    • 2

Allow a strong flow of cold water to continue running for 30 seconds after turning off the garbage disposal. This will effectively flush out any remaining food particles in the drain.

    • 3

Remove small items that could fall into the garbage disposal, such as silverware, from the sink before turning on the garbage disposal.

    • 4

Run the garbage disposal shortly after you put food in it. Do not allow food waste to build up in the garbage disposal.
