Shut off the electricity to the outlet into which you plan to plug the disposer.
Place a towel underneath your sink's drain. Place the bucket on top of that towel.
Put on your safety goggles and gloves.
Use pliers to unscrew and disconnect the pipes extending from the bottom of the sink's drain.
Turn the sink flange counterclockwise to remove it from the drain of your sink. Lift out the trap.
Apply a thin layer of plumber's putty around the threads of the new sink flange. Place it in your sink's drain.
Place a heavy book on the top of the flange to hold it in place.
Hold the upper mounting assembly of the food disposer to the underside of your sink. While holding it there, use a screwdriver to attach the upper mounting assembly to the flange.
Refer to the instructions that accompany your food disposer to find out where to place the sink gasket. Slip the mounting ring over the sink flange.
Push the snap ring into the sink flange until it pops into place.
Use the screwdriver to tighten the screws attaching the upper mounting assembly to the underside of the sink.
Inspect the P-trap of your existing sink pipes. Clean out any accumulated waste.
Connect the discharge tube of your food disposer to the drain pipes. Place the drain pipes over the discharge outlet of the disposer and turn the fastener clockwise.
Prepare the dishwasher drain connection, if you have a dishwasher running to your sink. Knock out a drain plug from the disposer's dishwasher nipple. Run a drain hose from your dishwasher's output to the disposer unit's dishwasher nipple.
Attach the disposer to the underside of the sink by fitting it into the upper mounting assembly. The disposer will lock into mounting tracks in the upper mounting assembly. Rotate the lower mounting ring clockwise until the three mounting tabs are pushed over the ridges of the mounting ring. Use a wrench to tighten the mounting ring securely.
Rotate the disposer until the discharge tube lines up with the drain trap.
Plug the food disposer into a power outlet.
