Turn the power off to the disposer using the wall switch.
Make sure that there is nothing jammed in the disposer grinding chamber. Sometimes chicken bones, peach pits or even flatware can fall into the disposer and cause it to jam.
Check the disposer electrical plug to make sure it is still firmly attached to the wall outlet.
Insert a disposer service wrench into the hexagonal socket on the bottom of the disposer and use it to turn the motor. If it does not turn freely there may still be something stuck in the grinding chamber.
Push the small, red square reset button protruding about 1/4-inch from the bottom of the disposer. It should stay pushed in.
Remove the disposer wrench from the hexagonal socket if you have not already done so.
Turn the disposer on using the wall switch.
