Turn off the power to the kitchen at the breaker box. Label the breaker so that no one accidentally turns it on when you are working. Disconnect the tailpiece from the existing S-trap in the drain line using a pipe wrench. Disconnect the tailpiece from the drain strainer using the pipe wrench. Remove the retaining wring from the drain strainer by turning it clockwise, and remove the strainer from the sink bowl.
Spread plumber's putty around the disposal drain ring and set the ring into the sink drain opening. Place the rubber gasket on the disposal drain under the sink and install the retaining ring on the drain. Tighten the ring as tight as possible by hand. Connect the electrical wire to the circuit and install the toggle switch. Use wire nuts where the splices are at the installation to the circuit to protect the connection.
Connect the wires to the Kenmore 6011 garbage disposal. Black is the hot wire, white is neutral and a green or bare wire is the ground. Connect the wires according to the colors, and install wire nuts on the splices. Push the wires into the wire box on the Kenmore disposal unit and install the cover on the wire box. Tighten the wire box screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Raise the disposal up to the drain and secure it to the mounting flange. Push the disposal firmly to lock it into place.
Turn the flange ring; insert a screwdriver into the loop and turn it to lock the disposal into place. Turn the disposal unit so that the drain lines up with the drainpipe on the sink. Connect the P-trap to the drain line using a pipe wrench to tighten the fitting. Insert the other end of the trap into the Kenmore 6011 garbage disposal. Tighten the flange using a Phillips screwdriver to secure the pipe to the disposal.
Turn the power back on to the kitchen circuit at the breaker box. Turn on the disposal to test the new installation. Always be sure to run cold water while you are grinding food in the disposal to help it to drain.
