How to Install a Badger Garbage Disposal

InSinkErator is the world's largest maker of under-sink garbage disposals for home use, and the Badger series is their economy line. Badgers have a single-stage, galvanized grind system rather than multi-stage stainless steel like the more costly models, use less sound deadening material and have less powerful motors. Like their more expensive cousins, the three models in the Badger line use InSinkErator's Quick-Lock mounting system, which replaces your existing sink drain flange and allows simple twist-on installation of the disposal. Follow this guideline to install a Badger garbage disposal.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the power to the garbage disposal's receptacle at the circuit box.

    • 2

Use a pipe wrench or channel lock pliers to loosen the large nuts connecting the sink drain pipe to the P-trap and the sink's strainer flange. Remove the drain pipe and the flange and clean the old plumber's putty or sealant from the sink fitting.

    • 3

Spread plumber's putty or silicone sealant over the top drain opening and press the new Quick-Lock sink flange into place. Slip the gasket and mounting rings over the bottom of the flange and tighten the three mounting bolts with a screwdriver to secure the assembly to the sink.

    • 4

Unscrew the access panel screw on the bottom of the disposal to expose the wiring. Use the wire nuts to twist together the white, black, and green wires with the corresponding wires from the power cord. Reinstall the panel. Make the same connections to the power supply with the wires in the junction box.

    • 5

Mate the three mounting tabs on top of the disposer with the slots in the mounting ring. Turn the mounting ring until the tabs lock into place.

    • 6

Slip the gasket supplied with the disposal over the discharge shoot opening and connect the discharge tube to the P-trap using the factory screws. Tighten the large nuts with the channel lock pliers or pipe wrench.

    • 7

Restore the power to the junction box. Fill the sink with water and turn the switch to the disposal on to check for leaks.
