First, always disconnect the power for the unit. This can be done from simply unplugging the disposal or turning off the breaker.

    • 2

The next step is to loosen the drain line coming from the disposal leading out. Some units may also have another small line connected at the top of the disposal if you have a dishwasher.

    • 3

At this point you should be able to rotate the disposal unit off of the bracket where it meets the bottom of the sink.

    • 4

When the disposal unit is out, flip it over. There is a electric access panel on the bottom. Open the panel and gently pull the wires out. Then separate the pair of wires until the unit is totally free.(Just make a mental note on where the wires were).

    • 5

Now take the new unit and remove its electric access panel and re connect the wires just as they were on the old unit.

    • 6

Now you can take the new disposal and insert it into the bracket under the sink. Turn the unit so that it locks in.

    • 7

Remember those drain lines? Well now you can attach them back to the new disposal. Make sure all drain lines are snug.

    • 8

Now that all is connected, run the water in the sink and check for any leaks. If no leaks are detected, then turn power back on and run the disposal.
