How to Sharpen Disposal Blades

Over time your garbage disposal may seem like it's not grinding as efficiently as it used to. Garbage disposal blades can become dull from use, especially if you place particularly the wrong food items down your disposal (such as bones or grease). Luckily there is an extremely quick, simple and cheap method of sharpening the blades on your disposal. You can even freshen the smell of your disposal while you sharpen the blades.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Drop a handful of ice cubes along with one cup of rock salt down your garbage disposal.

    • 2

Slice half of a lemon into thin wedges and drop the wedges down the disposal as well.

    • 3

Turn on the tap water so that it is flowing down the garbage disposal.

    • 4

Turn on the garbage disposal and allow it to run until you don't hear it grinding anymore. The ice will sharpen the blades, and the lemon wedges will help to deodorize and freshen the smell of the disposal.
