My LG Dishwasher's Mounting Bracket Is Broken

LG dishwashers have two mounting brackets that secure the dishwasher in place. The mounting brackets are installed on the top of the dishwasher if you have wood counters, or on the side of the dishwasher when stone counters are installed. If one of the mounting brackets breaks, you must remove it and install a new one.
  1. Safety Precautions

    • Before beginning and repairs on your dishwasher, it is important that you disconnect the dishwasher's power source. Your LG dishwasher does not have a power cord; rather, it is hardwired to your home's electrical system using a conduit wire. To disconnect the power, turn off the dishwasher breaker in your home's service panel.

    Bracket Purpose

    • The brackets are installed to keep the dishwasher in place and provide the appliance with additional support. When the door is closed, pressure must be applied to engage the lock. The brackets ensure that the dishwasher does not move into the cabinet when this pressure is applied. Further, the brackets ensure that the dishwasher does not move during the wash cycle.

    Accessing the Brackets

    • The brackets are installed either on the top or sides of the dishwasher, depending on the type of counters that you have installed. To access them, you must move the dishwasher slightly out of its installation location. With the power disconnected, remove the screws securing the dishwasher's lower front panel, and then remove the panel. Use a wrench to lower the leveling legs so that they touch the floor, and then remove the screws from the brackets. Pull the dishwasher out from under the counter so that the brackets are accessible. Stop once the rear of the brackets are exposed.

    Replacing the Brackets

    • Hold the front of the bracket, and then use pliers to bend the tab on the rear of the bracket so it is straight. Pull the bracket out of the bracket slot and discard. Slide the new bracket into the bracket slot until it is fully inserted. Once the bracket is inserted, grasp the front of the bracket and bend the rear tab up using pliers.
