The Handle Is Stuck Up on My Bosch Dishwasher

Safety First

• Avoid the possibility of injury or death. Before attempting to troubleshoot or repair your Bosch dishwasher, disconnect the appliance from the electric power source. Unplug the dishwasher from the wall outlet or shut off the power at the fuse or breaker box. Dishwashers are electrical appliances that retain water. Always wear rubber soled shoes and rubber or safety gloves when working on your dishwasher. Handle tools by their insulated end.

Latch

• Examine the door latch to determine if the latch is bent or broken. Sometimes sticky residue can be on the latch, preventing it from closing properly. If the latch is dirty, wash with soapy water and a soft brush.

Door Seal

• Visually inspect the door seal for cracks, bulges or tears. A functional seal should be firm and resilient with no visible damage. If the door seal is damaged a piece of the seal may be caught in the latch or door, preventing the door from closing properly. Door seals can not be repaired. If the door seal is worn or defective, you will need to replace the door seal. If your Bosch dishwasher is still under warranty, call your Bosch appliance dealer to schedule a repair. If you attempt repairs yourself, you may void the warranty.

Hinges

• If a heavy weight was placed on the open dishwasher door or the door was slammed or banged, the hinges or counterweight that balance the door may have been damaged and the door is out of alignment. If the door opens too quickly or falls open, the spring tension needs to be adjusted. If the door seems exceptionally heavy, the counterweights require replacing.
