Safety First

• Dishwashers are electrical appliances that retain water. To avoid personal injury, always disconnect your Bosch dishwasher from the electrical source prior to attempting troubleshooting or repairs. Disconnect the plug from the wall outlet or shut off the electric power at the fuse or circuit box. Wear rubber shoes and rubber gloves when working on the appliance. Remember to pick up tools by their insulated handle.

Drain Hoses

• It is normal for a small amount of water to remain in the dishwasher after it completes its washing cycle. If enough water remains that it flows out when the door is opened, the drain filter or line is likely clogged. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not crimped, preventing the dishwasher from draining. If your Bosch dishwasher is still not draining properly, the problem may lie with a clog in the drain line or air gap. The problem is often found where the drain line connects to the garbage disposal or home drain line. Remove the line and clear any debris blocking the line or the connection.

Filters

• Sticky food residue, built-up mineral deposits, a small lid, a broken toothpick or a chip of glass may be blocking the drain. Remove any dishes or flatware in the machine. Remove the racks to allow you to freely access the drain filter. Remove the filter and clean with soapy water and a soft brush -- an old toothbrush works well.

Float

• All Bosch dishwashers are equipped with a float switch located under the dishwasher. The float switch is connected to a small plastic cylinder located inside the dishwasher. The plastic cylinder is known as the float. The float moves up and down as water enters and exits the dishwasher. If the float is stuck or blocked, the dishwasher cannot drain.

Drain Pump

• The dishwasher pump removes water from the appliance. The pump is mounted directly to the motor, which is attached to the bottom of the dishwasher. Locate the impeller -- a small round plastic fan-blade-type device -- and inspect for visible damage. A chip of glass can damage the impeller or keep it from moving freely. If the impeller or the pump itself is defective, replacement parts are available from online appliance repair dealers that specialize in Bosch appliance parts, or order through your local Bosch appliance dealer.
