How to Replace a Fuse on a Jenn-Air Dishwasher

Jenn-Air dishwashers use an electric heating element inside the bottom of the cabinet to warm the water and dry dishes at the end of a cycle. The element is wired to a thermostatically controlled fuse as a safety precaution against overheating. If the fuse exceeds a certain amperage level, the circuit is interrupted and the heating element stops working. A burned-out fuse cannot be fixed. It must be replaced. Buy a replacement from Jenn-Air or an appliance parts shop and install the part in less than an hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the circuit breaker for the Jenn-Air to cut the electricity to the appliance.

    • 2

Take out the screws on the left and right sides of the toe panel at the bottom front of the Jenn-Air. Pull down and forward to remove the toe panel. Looking inside the appliance from the bottom, you can see the two connection points where the heating element terminals enter the bottom of the Jenn-Air on the right-hand side.

    • 3

Follow the wires from the two terminals on the heating element to the Y-shaped fuse attached to the underside of the dishwasher.

    • 4

Unplug the fuse wires. Each wire terminates in a plastic plug that pulls out of a socket inside the Jenn-Air.

    • 5

Take out the two screws that hold the fuse to the underside of the dishwasher. Remove the old part.

    • 6

Hold the new fuse assembly in place and secure it with the two screws.

    • 7

Connect the wire plugs on the new fuse to the sockets inside the dishwasher.

    • 8

Replace the toe panel and secure it with the screws.

    • 9

      Switch on the circuit breaker.
