Pull the dishwasher's door to open it slightly, and slam it shut to secure the door to the dishwasher. Press "Start/Pause" to resume the cycle. The door must be securely shut in order to continue the cleaning cycle.
Check the dishwasher's drain hose. The drain hose is found underneath your kitchen sink, and is raised slightly to provide even water flow during the draining process. A bend or kink in the hose prevents proper drainage and results in an interrupted cycle. Straighten out the hose to eliminate kinks and restore water drainage.
Run the garbage disposer for a few minutes until the disposer's drain is clear. A filled garbage disposer blocks the dishwasher from draining, as both appliances share a drain. The garbage disposer stops the audible grinding once the drain is clear of waste.
Turn off the garbage disposer's power switch, remove the hose connecting the dishwasher and the disposer. Check to ensure that the disposer's knockout plug was removed when the dishwasher was installed. If the knockout plug is still on the disposer, it will prevent the dishwasher from draining properly. Unscrew the disposer from the flange holding it to the sink, clear the knockout plug located in the disposer's drain with the screwdriver and a hammer, and restore the disposer. Then reattach the dishwasher drain line.
