Inspect the control panel buttons. Some dishwashers have buttons for options such as "hi-temp wash" or "high-temp rinse."
Press the buttons that are lit or highlighted to disable these features. Often these features can extend the wash cycle making it seem as if the cycle is stuck. If the cycle resumes and finishes the problem was likely one of these features.
Press and hold the "reset" or "cancel" button to end the cycle and drain the water. If the dishwasher stops and drains, you can restart the cycle. If the dishwasher does not respond, proceed to Step 4.
Locate the fuse switch in your home circuit breaker for the dishwasher. Turn it off, then back on. Go back to the dishwasher and hold down "reset" or "cancel."
Open the dishwasher slowly, as some trapped water may leak out. Verify there are no items jamming the dishwasher spray arms. When closing the door, verify that the door securely closes.
Press the "reset" or "cancel" button again. Select a desired wash cycle and try to wash the dishes through a normal cycle. If your dishwasher again appears to stay in wash mode continuously and your user manual's troubleshooting section doesn't illuminate the problem, you'll need to call in a pro.
