My Frigidaire Dishwasher Is Leaking From the Front Left

Purpose

• The overfill protection float is similar to the float in your toilet tank. The float in your toilet regulates the refilling of water to the tank after flushing. Once the float rises to a certain level the refilling stops, preventing an overflow or leaks. The Frigidaire overfill protection float works the same way. It regulates the water level as the wash cycle begins. Water could leak from the dishwasher if the protection float malfunctions.

Description

• Locate the overfill protection float by removing the bottom dish rack. The racks are on wheels and easily roll out of the dishwasher. The float is in the left front corner and is usually secured by a bolt. The float, which moves up and down to regulate water supply, is protected by a shaft or cover.

Repair

• The float cannot operate when jammed. Debris, such as a food scraps, can prevent the float from moving up or down. Tapping on the protective covering for the float may dislodge debris preventing the overfill protection float from working properly. Another option is removing the cover to visually inspect the float and remove debris. Try tapping on the cover first to see if that works. Always turn the dishwasher off and unplug it before troubleshooting.

Options

• Replacing the overfill protection float is an option if it has failed completely. Check your service manual for a customer service number at Frigidaire to inquire about the cost of the part. Also ask the representative about the complexity of the repair. For some people, having a repair person make the repair is worth the added cost.

Tips

• Frigidaire dishwashers can also leak because of other reasons, including poor sealing around the door of the dishwasher. Check the seal around your dishwasher’s door at the front left to confirm that the door is closing properly. Have a repair person replace the seal if it appears faulty, or do it yourself with some general guidance from Frigidaire customer service.
