Bosch Jet Dry Dispenser Is Clogged

Bosch, an appliance manufacturing based in Germany, has a full line of dishwashers that have rinse aid dispensers. Jet Dry, a dish washing liquid and accessories manufacturer, makes a entire line of rinse aids for use with Bosch dispensers. Jet Dry is poured into a dispensing unit on the Bosch dishwasher's inner door, and the liquid is automatically added to the dish rinse cycle for a clearer dishes. If the dispenser clogs, the rinse aid isn't added to the rinse cycle, resulting in cloudy, streaked or spotted dishes.
  1. Rinse Aid

    • Jet Dry rinse aid is designed to prevent spots, streaks and film on washed dishes by stopping the moisture droplets from drying on the dishes. The water-repelling sheeting action -- rinse water slides off surfaces more easily -- helps both the dishes and the inside of the Bosch dishwasher dry faster and more thoroughly than loads washed without an agent. Using a rinse agent when you run the dishwasher helps prevent soap residue from coating the inside of your unit.

    Location and Regulator

    • The Jet Dry rinse aid dispenser is a rectangular or square box attached to the detergent dispenser unit. Your Bosch dishwasher might have a light that turns on when the dispenser reservoir is empty, and a built-in regulator. The regulator allows you to set a limit on how much rinse agent is added to the rinse cycle using a scale of one to six. A lower setting is needed if you have streaks on your washed dishes, while a higher setting is for spotting problems.

    Solution

    • Once the dispenser is clogged, cleaning it out properly should resolve the problem. Open the Jet Dry Dispenser and clean the unit and the door with hot water and a wash cloth or sponge. Depending on your model, you might have to remove the screws from the inner door to get to the dispenser. Some Bosch systems are sealed. Don't use chemical cleaners because the residue can end up on your dishes. Clean off all soap scum and residue you can see. If the residue is sticking, try adding a little plain white vinegar to the hot water and then cleaning the dispenser. If you're concerned about opening the door, you can try to squirt hot water and vinegar into the dispenser using a turkey baster. If you see gunk you can't get to, fill the dispenser with vinegar instead of Jet Dry and run one hot wash cycle without detergent and with the dishwasher empty.

    Prevention/Warranty

    • Using excessive amounts of rinse agent or dish detergent can cause problems with the general operation of your Bosch dishwasher, not just the Jet Dry dispenser. Try using less soap and rinse agent if you have repeated dispenser clogs. Bosch dishwashers come with a warranty. Warranty length and coverage varies by model, but it commonly covers replacement of defective parts, including the rinse aid dispenser. Constant clogging, despite cleaning and prevention efforts, might be the sign of a faulty dispenser. Check your dishwasher's paperwork for warranty information before removing any part of the dishwasher because unauthorized removal can void the coverage.
