How to Take the Vent Screen Off a Kenmore Dishwasher

When the washing cycle is complete on your Kenmore dishwasher, the inside of the unit is full of steam, and much of that steam is vented out of the dishwasher through the vent screen located on the top of the door. If the screen becomes broken or clogged, this could cause problems inside your dishwasher. You can remove the vent screen at any time from the dishwasher door to see if the part needs to be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power to your Kenmore dishwasher at the kitchen's circuit breaker.

    • 2

Open the dishwasher door. Remove the six screws from the top control panel, using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3

Detach the wire harness connectors from the terminals by hand. This will dislodge the control panel.

    • 4

Remove the four T-15 Torx screws that connect the left side of the outer door panel to the frame of the door, using a Torx driver.

    • 5

Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the slot of the vent screen, then turn the screen counterclockwise.

    • 6

Lift and remove the vent screen. Inspect the vent screen for any broken parts, and replace the screen if necessary.
