How to Check a Valve Gasket for a GE Dishwasher

GE dishwashers have a water inlet valve underneath the dishwasher that allows water to flow to and from the dishwasher. There are two hoses that connect to the inlet valve and both have a small rubber gasket inside the end of the hose. If you notice the dishwasher is leaking water out from the bottom front of the dishwasher, check the gaskets inside of the inlet valve hoses. You can replace the gaskets to prevent leaks, if necessary.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the breaker switch in the electrical breaker box to “off” for the GE dishwasher or unplug the power cord for the dishwasher from the outlet.

    • 2

Turn off the water that runs to the dishwasher. In most homes, you can turn the water off by accessing the water line under the kitchen sink.

    • 3

Follow the instructions in your owner's manual for your GE dishwasher’s kickplate removal. Most GE dishwasher’s have a screw on each end, requiring the use of a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws. Once the screws are removed, you can remove the kickplate to access the water inlet valve.

    • 4

Notice the two hoses that connect to the water inlet valve.

    • 5

Place a towel or a bowl under the hoses. Water will drip out from the hoses when you remove them.

    • 6

Unscrew the hoses by hand or remove the clamps that hold the hoses in place. A clamp can be released by squeezing both sides of the clamp and then removing it.

    • 7

View the gaskets inside of the hose ends. Inspect the hoses for cracks, mold, corrosion or if they do not fit properly. To replace the gaskets, use needle nose pliers to pull the gasket out and to push a new gasket into place.

Reconnect the hoses, reinstall the kickplate, turn the water back on and then turn the power back on to the GE dishwasher.
